Using this website

Valueplacement is run by Valueplacement. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

That means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using the built-in accessibility toolbar
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using a keyboard alone
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver)
  • Use the website on a mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer

We have also written the content on this website in plain English, using short sentences and clear headings, to make it easier to understand — especially for people with dyslexia, ADHD or other learning differences.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We believe this website is largely compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 at AA level.

Specific design decisions we have made include:

  • Minimum body text size of 18px (most sites use 14-16px)
  • Line height of 1.8 for body text (recommended for dyslexia)
  • Maximum line length of 70 characters (prevents reading fatigue)
  • Atkinson Hyperlegible as the default font — designed specifically for low-vision users
  • All colour combinations meet a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1
  • Minimum tap/click target size of 44x44 pixels on all interactive elements
  • Focus indicators are always visible — never hidden or removed
  • Animations are disabled when the user has "reduce motion" enabled on their device
  • High contrast mode is supported via both a built-in toggle and operating system settings

Accessibility tools built into this site

You will find three accessibility buttons in the top bar of every page:

Larger text
Increases all text on the page to 20px minimum. Headings scale proportionally. Your preference is saved and applies across all pages.
Dyslexia-friendly font
Switches the entire site to OpenDyslexic — a font designed to reduce the visual distortion experienced by many people with dyslexia. Also increases word spacing slightly.
High contrast
Increases colour contrast across the site beyond AA level. Useful for people with low vision or those browsing in bright conditions.

All preferences are saved automatically and will be remembered next time you visit.

Known accessibility issues

We are aware of the following limitations and are working to address them:

  • Some employer-submitted listings may contain images without alt text — we review these manually but cannot always catch every case.
  • The YouTube video embedded on the homepage is a third-party embed and may not be fully accessible to all screen reader users.
  • AI-generated descriptions are written to be plain and clear but have not been tested by screen reader users individually.
