You’ll be working alongside the parks maintenance team and community events coordinators across Wokingham’s green spaces. Your day-to-day tasks will include helping to maintain public parks such as Cantley Park and Dinton Pastures, assisting with grounds preparation, helping set up and run community events like outdoor fitness classes and family fun days, general litter management, and supporting park users with information. You’ll gain hands-on experience in outdoor environmental work, event coordination, and community engagement while keeping our local parks looking great.

During this placement, you’ll develop practical skills in horticulture and grounds maintenance, learn how to plan and deliver community events, and build strong communication skills by working with diverse groups of park users. You’ll understand how local councils maintain public spaces, gain experience in health and safety procedures, and develop teamwork abilities. You’ll also build confidence working in an outdoor environment and may gain insight into careers in leisure services, environmental management, or community development.

This opportunity is perfect if you enjoy working outdoors, have an interest in environmental conservation, or want to develop community-facing skills. It’s ideal for students studying health and social care, environmental studies, business, or those considering careers in public services or community work. You’ll make a real difference to your local community while gaining practical experience that looks great on your CV.
